ELLEWEWA RESERVOIR PROJECT 



             Under the project, a reservoir of 2.25 MCM is to be constructed across Kadigam Ara.  One of the main objectives of the project is to regularize the flow to existing Panamure anicut series, which faces water shortages especially in Yala seasons. Also to fulfill the water extraction requirement of the Kolonna Water Supply Scheme having a capacity of 7000 m3/day to provide drinking water facility to 40,000 people within the area of Kolonna & Embilipitiya DS division.

The inundation area of the proposed reservoir is 25.59 Acs (21.28 ha).  The length of the bund is 200 m and maximum height is 24 m.  Implementing agency is Irrigation Department. The cost of the project is around Rs.1,536 Mn.  The entire cost is to be allocated by the treasury as GOSL funds.

Construction of the reservoir (Main earth dam) was started & ceremonially opened by the Irrigation Minister, Honorable Mr. Chamal Rajapakse  in 2021, March 19 and scheduled to be completed in end of 2023. 

         Construction activities including Head Works have been carried out on direct labour basis by Department Of Irrigation. Hired Machinery and Labor will be used for construction activities. This Project Included of Construction of the Bottom Outlet (sluice), Main Dam, and two Saddle Dam, which will be complied in 2023-2024
